54 engineering schools in California awarded 14,208 bachelor’s degrees in engineering to first majors from July 2024 to June 2025, by NCES’s count: 1st of the 51 states and DC with a engineering school. California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo awarded the most, 1,191. An engineering school here is a college that awarded at least one bachelor’s degree in any program of NCES’s CIP family 14, Engineering. The rule is broad by construction: every engineering discipline counts, and engineering technology (CIP 15) does not.
