What this data cannot show
- A subsidized home is a unit in HUD's Picture of Subsidized Households at December 31: public housing, a Housing Choice Voucher or a project-based Section 8 unit, each once. Tax-credit housing is a separate file and is not added in.
- The rate is per resident, not per renter household, because renter households are not a loaded source. A state where more people own their home has a lower rate for that reason as well as any other.
- HUD's national count also holds 117,279 homes in Puerto Rico, the territories and households recorded with no state. They are in the national count and in no row here.
